Stephen Marsh-trained three-year-old filly Well Written (Written Tycoon) stayed unbeaten in winning the Gr.2 Soliloquy Stakes to become Stakes winner number 80 for her sire. The filly is now two from two having also won her debut outing. “That was bloody exciting as we thought we had two excellent fillies,” Marsh said.
“It was just a shame Little Black Dress got softened up and taken on the whole way. Well Written got a great run and you could just see at the top of the straight it was going to be another good win like last time. I was hoping she had the X-factor. Holy hell, she could be pretty special.”
She will head to the Gr.1 NZ 1000 Guineas next. She is the first foal of Stakes-placed Mozzie Monster (Sebring) and was originally sold by Lemrac Lodge for $32,500 at the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale to Foxhill Thoroughbreds. Well Written was purchased by Marsh and Dylan Johnson Bloodstock for NZ$80,000 from Brighthill Stud’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale.
