Equine Welfare

Yulong Stud is uniquely located to provide the perfect environment for its equine residents, nestled at the heart of Victoria’s prime thoroughbred country, on the fertile banks of the Goulburn River.

The five main farms have undergone extensive redevelopment in recent years, with the addition of a state-of-the-art stallion complex, world-class yearling preparation facility and bespoke foaling units, all encompassed in 4,000 acres of irrigated pasture.

Yulong’s veterinary amenities extend to tailored examination areas, x-ray boxes and an on-site intensive care unit at our Hillside property, whilst leading veterinary practices Avenel Equine Hospital and Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital are only a short drive away.

Our widely experienced staff are supported by a dedicated team of full-time veterinarians and vet nurses, ensuring all Yulong horses receive a high-level of round the clock care, from newborn foal to retiree.

A LIFE OF OPPORTUNITY

Yulong is committed to providing our horses with a long and happy life post racing.

Our newly developed rehoming initiative and designated aftercare fund aims to provide former Yulong runners with the fundamental skills for a successful transition to equestrian life.

Following an initial veterinary assessment upon retirement, our horses are given a period of rest and recuperation at our Bayles property near Pakenham, prior to a 12-week retraining program with an accredited off-the-track trainer.

The Nannies

Whilst many thoroughbreds go on to have successful careers off the track, some require a slightly slower pace of life. Amid the host of international racing stars that call Yulong home are several equally important residents, Yulong’s band of retired thoroughbreds known as
“The Nannies”.

With their racing days behind them, this eclectic group of geldings now enjoy a well-deserved retirement on the sprawling pastures of Yulong’s Nagambie property. Their primary role is to provide reassurance and guidance to Yulong’s youngstock, imparting their own wisdom and nurturing future stars of the turf.
