Lucky Vega strikes with juvenile Stakes double

Yulong shuttle sire Lucky Vega (IRE) enjoyed a European Stakes double this weekend, with his first-crop two-year-olds Lam Yai (IRE) and Only Luck (IRE) – conceived during his tenure at the Irish National Stud – striking at Doncaster and Hannover respectively.

The Karl Burke-trained Lam Yai kicked off proceedings with convincing win in the Listed Prospect Stakes at Doncaster on Saturday. Placed in Gr.3 company on her previous start, the €135,000 Goffs Orby Graduate strode clear in the final furlong, saying on to win by 1.5 lengths.

Lam Yai is a half-sister to Gr.3 Grand Prix de Vichy victrix One For Bobby (IRE) (Frankel {GB}) and the seventh foal out of the Listed-winning and Gr.3 placed mare One Spirit (IRE) (Invincible Spirt {IRE}). She in turn is out of Recite (JPN), a winning half-sister to Champion Older Sprinter and Gr.1 sire Diktat (GB).

On Sunday, unbeaten filly Only Luck (IRE) further enhanced her record, adding the Listed Youngster Fillies Cup at Hannover. Bred by The Irish National Stud, Only Luck is the fourth foal out of the winning Kitten’s Joy (USA) mare Love Street (USA), a half-sister to US Gr.3 winner Bold Union (USA).
