Dual NZ Champion Legarto (NZ), by Proisir, is out of Geordie Girl, a winning sister and half-sister to dual Stakes-placed performers Rapid Kay and Kekova, respectively.
Legarto was trained throughout her career in the heart of Matamata by Ken & Bev Kelso. She announced her talent with a 3.3-length victory on debut as a two-year-old before making her mark at three with five wins, including a Guineas double. She first claimed the Gr.1 NZ 1000 Guineas before heading across the Tasman for the first time to dominate the Gr.1 Australian Guineas at Flemington, earning Champion 3YO Filly honours in 2022-23.
A tough and consistent mare, Legarto raced through to six years of age, adding a further five Stakes victories to her record. Highlights included back-to-back wins in the Gr.1 Herbie Dyke Stakes and victory in the Gr.1 Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes, as well as earning the title of Champion Middle Distance Horse in NZ.
Legarto was purchased for $2.8 million at the 2026 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale.
