Despite concerns from the Grahame Begg camp that Saturday’s ever downgrading surface at Caulfield would be against their classy filly Miraval Rose (Grunt {NZ}) in the Listed Twilight Glow S. The 3-year-old filly showed plenty of courage, ridden by Jordan Childs, sticking close to the rail and galloping relentlessly to defeat Flying Fizz (Street Boss {USA}) by 3l, while Right To Party (Zoustar) held on for third.
Miraval Rose started this preparation at Kyneton in October beating the subsequent victress Extremely Rowdy (Extreme Choice) by 2.8l before finishing second in the G3 Thoroughbred Club S. narrowly to Brazen Style (Brazen Beau).
The filly is the second stakes winner for Yulong’s second-season sire Grunt (NZ) and is from the Zabeel (NZ) mare Gypsy Tucker. She is a half-sister to the G3 Maribyrnong Plate and $1 million Showdown victor Finance Tycoon, who stands at Kooringal Stud.
Miraval Rose is a half-sister to the G2 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic winner Gypsy Diamond (Not A Single Doubt), who also placed in the G1 Queen of the Turf S. and was fourth in the G1 VRC Oaks.
The filly was a $250,000 purchase by Rohan Hughes and Grahame Begg Racing from the draft of her breeder Yulong at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
