Area Manager – VIC

Yulong Stud, located in Nagambie, Victoria, is seeking a suitably experienced person to join our team as an Area Manager.

The successful candidate will have previous experience in a similar role and be well versed in a variety of areas within the thoroughbred industry. You will be responsible for leading and motivating a team on one of our farms, overseeing its daily operations and playing an integral role in the success and efficiency of the wider stud operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day to day operations of one of our farms.
  • Lead and develop a team under the direction of the Stud Manager and ensure effective and precise communication skills.
  • Assist with foaling preparation and provide support during the foaling season.
  • Support foaling operations and newborn foal care.
  • Ensuring mares and foals receive appropriate feed, water and daily care.
  • An understanding of foal conformation and corrective farrier work.
  • Assist with breeding preparations and reproductive management activities.
  • Oversee daily care, development and wellbeing of Yearlings.
  • Assist in the preparation of Yearlings for sales and parades.
  • Maintain accurate health and treatment records.
  • Liaise with veterinarians and farriers.
  • Monitor facilities, paddocks and keep accurate records of injuries, horses’ wellbeing and paddock movements.
  • Work in accordance with management direction.

What were looking for:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role preferred.
  • Experience in horse nutrition and pasture management highly regarded.
  • Sound understanding of the broodmare reproductive system to facilitate the organisation and record keeping involved with vetting during the breeding season.
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Solid organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work within a team as well as independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent work ethic and can-do attitude with attention to detail.
  • Ability to positively encourage staff and educate them about horse care.
  • Be approachable, and have a desire to achieve great results.
  • A current driver’s licence, truck licence desirable.
  • Computer literacy; experience with using Ardex, Excel and Word.
