Three scratchings left a field of four for the juvenile event over 1100 metres at Te Rapa, and it was Alabama Express filly Dashing Dixie (NZ) who led all the way to win for trainers Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott, under a rails ride by Masa Hashizume. She will head to the R.Listed Karaka Million two-year-old next.
“It’s no surprise to the team that she did what she did today,” said O’Sullivan.
“With four runners, she just started to relax in front and quicken off the corner. The team certainly likes her, and as you say, she’s got a tick at the big lottery now. We’ll go through it when we get home and make a decision on where we go to there. It’d be good to have a runner (in the Millions).
“She still has a lot of improvement and she’s only going to continue from here.”
Sales: Sold by Elsdon Park at the 2025 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale for NZ$340,000 to Wexford Stables.
Pedigree notes: Dashing Dixie becomes winner number 36 for Champion Sire Zoustar in the damsire role, and she’s one of two runners from Alabama Express’s third crop. The other is stakes placed Alibaba.
