Gr.1 Blue DIamond Winner, like his sire Extreme Choice

Extremely attractive, extremely precocious, and by an extremely good sire, Gr.1-winning two-year-old Devil Night stands his first season with Yulong at the newly established New South Wales base at Segenhoe Stud in the Hunter Valley.

Secured for $1.4 million from his breeder Kingstar Farm at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, Devil Night is a son of the phenomenal Extreme Choice, a highly commercial and globally elite sire standing for a career-high fee of $385,000 in 2026. Boasting the highest stakes winners‑to‑runners strike rate of any sire in the region, Extreme Choice is also emerging as a powerful sire of sires, with sons Stay Inside and Extreme Warrior already producing stakes winners from their first crops.

Devil Night is a half‑brother to dual Gr.3 winner Our Playboy, from the Shamardal mare Mischief Night. The late Shamardal continues to shape modern pedigrees as a premier sire of sires and elite broodmare influence, with daughters producing Champions such as Imperatriz, Private Eye and Ceowulf.

Mischief Night is a half-sister to Gr.1-winning sprinter and young sire Pierata, a stallion on the rise having covered the cream of Yulong’s power-packed broodmare band, and out of the Group-winning Flying Spur mare November Flight.

On the racetrack, Devil Night delivered immediate impact. He debuted at two with a courageous second in the Gr.3 Blue Diamond Prelude, finishing ahead of Yulong’s Group‑winning juvenile Tycoon Star, before backing up just two weeks later to claim Victoria’s premier juvenile race, the Gr.1 Blue Diamond Stakes. In the process, he emulated his sire by defeating a high‑class field that included future multiple Group 1 winner Tentyris.

At three, Devil Night continued to excel at the top level, as runner‑up in the Gr.3 Zeditave Stakes before a brave third in the Gr.1 William Reid Stakes, finishing ahead of Group 1 winners Charm Stone, Baraqiel, Jimmysstar, Benedetta, Magic Time and Tropicus.

Another outstanding performance followed in the Arrowfield 3YO Sprint at Royal Randwick, officially a Gr.2 but widely regarded as a Group 1‑calibre field. Taking charge early, Devil Night showed trademark courage to the line, denied only by Champion filly Tempted, while finishing ahead of $3 million‑winning Sunlight Stakes hero Grafterburners and dual Group 1 winner Marhoona.

“Brilliance, precocity, quality and temperament, all words I’d use to describe Devil Night” said co-trainer John Hawkes, well versed in the qualities of future star sires himself, having orchestrated the careers of subsequent stallions Lonhro, All Too Hard and Ole Kirk.

“We’ve enjoyed training him, he’s so genuine and honest. Our job has been made easy when they are natural like this bloke. I really think he’ll make a very good stallion.”

Yulong’s Chief Operating Officer Sam Fairgray, instrumental in his purchase as a yearling, added “Devil Night is a hugely exciting addition to our 2026 stallion roster. He’s by Extreme Choice, a sire with an incredible strike rate himself, and a Group 1-winning two-year-old like his sire, who trained on to beat elite sprinters at weight-for-age.”

Speed, precocity and pedigree, Devil Night is an extremely compelling prospect for 2026.
