Yulong Stud’s veterinary department is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual with clinical or commercial laboratory experience to join our growing team based near Nagambie, Victoria.
Our veterinary facilities include a fully equipped laboratory with IDEXX hematology, chemistry, and blood gas machines, as well as the capacity for cultures and sensitivities, urinalysis, and faecal egg counts.
As the Veterinary Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for running and operating the lab, preparing and processing a range of veterinary samples to support timely and accurate diagnosis and treatment of our equine patients. You’ll work closely with our veterinarians and be a key contributor to our commitment to delivering high-level clinical care.
This is a hands-on, rewarding role within a passionate, collaborative team and would suit someone with a strong interest in equine health and diagnostics.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Preparation and evaluation of faecal samples for parasitology.
- Processing samples for bacterial identification (clitoral, uterine, transtracheal washes, joint, faecal and exudate).
- Performing bacterial culture and susceptibility testing.
- Processing blood samples for haematology, biochemistry, blood gas analysis, serum amyloid A, fibrinogen, and IgG.
- Performing cytology on a variety of sample types (e.g. blood, transtracheal wash, abdominocentesis, exudate, uterine, joint, ocular, and bronchoalveolar lavage).
- Preparing and processing all veterinary samples for analysis and documentation.
- Assisting with inventory management and ensuring accurate record-keeping for medical records.
To be successful you will have the following:
- A bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences, Microbiology or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a veterinary laboratory setting with equine samples (essential).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain quality control procedures.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence liaising with veterinary and stud staff at all levels.
- A willingness to assist in teaching and supporting vet nurses with lab procedures.
- Computer literacy and proficiency in lab software and record keeping.
- A current driver’s licence.
