Grunt (NZ)

Grunt (NZ) is by Champion stallion O’Reilly (NZ) out of Ruqqaya (NZ) (Van Nistelrooy {USA}), and is now forging his own successful career at stud as part of the Yulong roster.

Originally raced by Rupert Legh, Grunt was trained by Mick Price and is a dual-Gr.1-winning miler, with five wins from his 12 starts, recording $1,382,450 in prizemoney. Grunt broke his maiden at the beginning of his second campaign starting a four-race winning streak. On the 3rd March 2018, Grunt won the Australian Guineas ridden by Damien Oliver, who praised Grunt post-victory, saying: “He’s a magnificent specimen of a horse and he deserved a really strong Gr.1 win like that today”.

Returning as a four-year-old, on 15th September 2018, Grunt impressively won the Maybe Diva Stakes beating 8 Gr.1 winners in the process.
