MR YUESHENG ZHANG
A deep love of the horse has guided Mr Yuesheng Zhang’s life story.
Growing up in a small village in Shen Xi near Inner Mongolia, horses were a way of life utilised everyday for farming labour. As a child, his job was to tend to the horses.
After a visit to Ireland in 2010, this passion for the horse developed into a deep appreciation of the racehorse. Mr Yuesheng Zhang discovered a world of opportunity existed in the thoroughbred industry. He invested in his first racehorse, Yulong Bao Ju.
Mr Yuesheng Zhang travelled to other racing nations. He first attended the Melbourne Cup in 2013/14, and on this trip began to explore possibilities of investing in the local industry. The Australian environment, in particular Victoria, held enormous appeal as an optimum location to raise young thoroughbreds.
The first Australian racehorse was purchased in 2014, Yulong Bao Ma. She has now joined the Yulong broodmare band. Not long after, the first Australian farm was purchased, a 170 acre redeveloped property now called
Yulong Park and utilised for spelling purposes.
Two additional properties have since been purchased. Yulong Lane and Yulong Hillside were purchased in 2018, and are under construction to become state-of-the-art stallion and broodmare properties.
A global perspective guides the Yulong business, with racehorses also based in the the UK and USA. China has remained a major focus. Mr Yuesheng Zhang is committed to developing racing in his native Shen Xi region. Racing is held every week between May and September, with the first sale of racehorses taking place in 2018.
Mr Yuesheng Zhang strives for best practice in every area of the thoroughbred industry. This philosophy guides the development of Yulong and is exemplified through the investment in elite bloodstock, world class facilities and quality team of horsemen.
The vision is to become a leading commercial breeding and racing operation in Australia, and expand Yulong into other world thoroughbred regions.
